The quest for a man-boy to find the greatest of melbourne's food.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
The Vue name is synonymous with many. Elegant, expensive, experimental, “what the shiznit”, but ever since the many Cafe Vue’s have been appearing around Melbourne, you can add a new one, somewhat casual. (Also note on the photos, this is around the same time as I discovered that “HOMG TAKING PICTURES SIDEWAYS MAKES IT LOOK COOL” brace for repetitive settings).

The food is complex, yet affordable, but then again there are some dishes on the menu that are pretty pricey if you choose to go with the ala carte/set menus, but they are justified by the great flavour that most of the dishes present. A great example is this $7 hot chocolate!

Don’t worry though, that is one glorious hot chocolate. Its sweet, thick but then he’s like, “hey bro, I’m so much more than that” and you recognize the chocolate, creamy flavours that it brings. It’s divine and kind of worth the whole seven dollars. (NOTE: kind of, don’t go complaining if it wasn’t the same amount of satisfaction)
Entrees and Mains:

Kurobuta Pork Belly with Sliced Pear - the crackling is indescribably perfect, crisp and oh so flavourful. The pork itself had that melt in your mouth feeling, nicely spiced and the tang of the sauce adds an extra layer of complexity of the dish.
BM - Roast pumpkin, feta & rocket salad with yuzu dressing- Wow wait what, the salad was the best dish? Yeah I’m being serious. The tangy-ness of the yuzu cuts through the rocket, the creamy pumpkin and the rich feta also blends together for a symmetry of awesome.

Chickpea (?) in a consomme broth - I, for the love of God cannot remember what this dish was. I remember it being some kind of chickpea/herb fritter in a very tasty broth. It was in no way unmemorable, it was just so long ago.
Pommes Mousseline - This was a bit of dissapointment. I thought it would be one of those “holy mofo” moments with mash that would make me go here every day. It was a bit dense, but the flavour was good.
I think the coolest thing about this joint is the bread bags. I’m being serious. You put the bread in the bag,

and plug it to the side of the table and it flings around as a space saving gadget. That is one badass invention.
The experience in itself is very good. The waiters are very friendly and professional and gladly explains the dishes for the several dishes/ingredients which are obscure. The food is always of high standard, but personally I didn’t think the highly popular “Vue Burger” was all that great, but it was maybe just an off day. Maybe we can now add ‘cheap and tasty’ to our synonyms. No? Okay.
