The quest for a man-boy to find the greatest of melbourne's food.

Dainty Sichuan

A revealing fact about this man-boy is that he is Indonesian. Indonesians are known for the fiery, spicy food and sambal. But I cannot take heat.

Sure I can take Nando’s extra hot chicken and dishes in japanese restaurants where they warn you that “this chicken is spicy”, but Szechuan cuisine is something else in itself. It’s hot, and filled with the spirited, pungent chillies. And worse, I sweat (along with the other white people in the table next to me), PROFUSELY, when I eat spicy foods, I know this may turn you off (ladies.), but the food is damn tasty.

Minced Pork with Green Bean: ($14.80)

Beans with pork

I like this dish, despite the high content of oil. The pork is nicely flavoured and the beans have a nice, crunchy, yet satistyfing texture to them. This dish is really traditional apparently, and when I went to China it popped out quite a bit. This is a bit different to the other dishes of the restaurant though, this is like a garden salad.

BM: Spicy Pork Ribs (Chilli Rating: 3/3, but should be 20/3, if you ask me) ($38)

Pork Ribs

This is an exceptional dish. Very spicy, yet satisfying. The meat is flavoured with a horde of szechuan peppers, lotus roots, and obscene amount of garlic (which I took a massive chomp of thinking it was pork). The pork’s basic flavour is obviously mofo-ing spicy, but it is very complex, the spices that are intricately blended are extremely balanced. It is tender and falls off the bone, but still has a nice bite to it and it is a large serve. It also come with deep fried gelatinous rice-cakes (in case you were wandering what those batons were). It served on a hot place and can easily serve 4 people.

Don’t let the spice scare you though, there are mountain of variety of drinks available from the fridges, from oolong tea to a 2 litre bottle of soy milk (recommended). Try it when you’re feeling adventurous or want to laugh at your friends.
